Scenes from the opening of "Red Door Clothes" on October 20, 2007

Red Door Clothes: In a joint ministry with Trinity Episcopal Church, Wauwatosa, St. James' houses a clothing ministry open on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month: "Clothing and Caring for God's People."

Sundries from the Avenue: St. James' founded and hosts a program of gathering and packaging "sundries" -- toiletries and personal care items -- for the homeless and disadvantaged in our area.

Indigent Burials:  Our Indigent Burial Ministry at St. James is unique. Any person in Milwaukee County who has died and was extremely poor and is unclaimed by any friends or relatives will not be buried alone.  Mother Debra is notified by the funeral director when an indigent burial is planned. She then invites involved parishioners to come to the cemetery.  We gather at the grave site and offer a brief service from the Book of Common Prayer. Each person is also accorded a permanent memorial at St. James.  Their name and date of burial are inscribed on a plaque in our sanctuary. Last year we added 14 names to our plaque.

The Gathering: The Gathering meal program located in St. James' lower level kitchen and cafeteria feeds approximately 90,000 people a year.

The Outreach Ministry: In partnership with the Central City Churches, St. James sponsors a program to meet the urgent, short-term housing, food, employment and companionship needs of our neighbors.

The Food Pantry: In partnership with the Central City Churches, St. James sponsors and supports the Central City Food Pantry, feeding 650 to 700 people each month in our neighborhood.
